It’s the radiator. Must be.

You reckon that Beetle one that was posted yesterday would fit?

No, too big. Try a 2CV one.

Maybe it’s time to do some tuning. I could fit one from an early 911.

Well, time to get a new starter motor :)
Check connections on it, might be just that afterall... Is it injected? Can you push start it easily? What car is that?

Yup. Probably. This one is less than a year old though. :/
Connections should be fine, we’ve had issues with those before and replaced leads with much chunkier ones.
It’s my Fiat 126p, so it’s not injected. I could push start it easily (it’s just 600 kg of car), but I dont’ have a need to. It’s not my main ride or anything.

Yeah, but since it’s been stored for a while, push starting it and making sure it runs might save you a couple weeks in term of part ordering if something else went wrong. Carburated cars are sometimes much harder to push start and get running, which is why I asked...

I’ve had this problem in a similar vehicle before. It’s the car, it wont start. You are welcome for my help.

I got it back on the road yesterday and it was orking beautifully. Passed inspection with flying colours. I should have known everything was going too well. :(

Shit. I was kinda hoping it was the ironing board after all.

i heard those are the best ones.

Oh ok ok, I thought it was your first starting attempt in 3 months :)

I’d say low battery and/or sticking solenoid. With the key on position 1 (ignition on) try a direct connection from the battery + terminal (or main positive cable in the engine bay, as I suppose you have the battery in the front boot) to the positive end of the starter motor solenoid. Car should then start: usually that jolts an iffy solenoid into action.
But I would make sure the battery holds a nice charge first anyway.

I’ll try that, but first I think I’ll bash it with some sort of a stick. :D

Good idea. Sometimes that happens also to the actual starter motor, so try that on it as well.
(Electric fuel pumps usually respond favourably to that kind of persuasion too)

It’s only on looking at Wiki that I discover that the later 126s are actually watercooled..
I had thought they were all aircooled!

There was a series of watercooled hatchback 126p’s between 87 and 91, but they all went back to being aircooled after that.
Fiat later used that watercooled engine in the base Cinquecento (700).
